The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) joins the nation in mourning His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away on 27th August 2026.
In honour of his legacy, love, passion and contribution to football, FUFA communicates that a moment of silence be observed before kick-off of all football competitions, events and activities organised across the country from 28th August to 4th September 2026.
His Majesty was a true friend of the sport and a passionate supporter whose love for the game was evident in his support for the Uganda Cranes, the Tooro Kingdom Amasaza Cup and football development in Tooro.
His Majesty was also a strong supporter of the FUFA Drum from the tournament’s inception in 2017. He embraced the competition’s vision of using football to celebrate Uganda’s diverse cultures and bring communities together.
In 2018, King Oyo received the FUFA President, Hon. Moses Hassim Magogo, at the Royal Palace in Fort Portal, where the two shared ideas on football development and the role of the FUFA Drum in identifying and nurturing talent. The King also pledged his support to FUFA’s football development programmes and activities in Tooro Kingdom.
‘His Majesty was a humble King who deeply loved the Uganda Cranes and supported the game with passion and pride. We have lost a true friend of football. His contribution to the growth of the game, particularly in Tooro, will be remembered with great appreciation,’ said FUFA President Hon. Moses Hassim Magogo.
During his reign, Tooro Kingdom produced a number of quality footballers who went on to contribute to football at different levels in Uganda. His Majesty also played a role in promoting football among stakeholders and championing the sport’s potential to develop young people and communities.
FUFA joins the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and all Ugandans in mourning the loss of a King who leaves behind a lasting legacy in the sport.
