FUFA to develop new Women’s Football Strategy

A new strategy for Women’s football is in the offing, as Ugandan football seeks to chart a fresh roadmap for the growth of the women’s game in the country.

The strategy, being developed with support from FIFA through its Women’s Football Development Programme, comes after the expiry of the 2019 framework that has guided women’s football in Uganda to date.

Intended to build on the progress achieved so far, the new strategy will respond to emerging opportunities and challenges within the women’s football landscape.

It will provide clear strategic direction for the continued growth of the game, from grassroots participation and youth development to elite football, national teams, competitions, capacity building, governance, communication, commercialisation and stakeholder partnerships.

As part of the development process, FUFA will convene two separate Stakeholders’ Consultative Workshops on 31st August at Jevine Hotel Lubaga and 1st September 2026, at FUFA Stadium Kadiba facilitated by FIFA.

The workshops will bring together key stakeholders from across Uganda’s women’s football ecosystem.

The consultations will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences, priorities and recommendations, and contribute directly to shaping the future direction of women’s football in Uganda.

The two-day engagement will facilitate detailed discussions on the current status of women’s football, key achievements, gaps, opportunities and strategic priorities for the coming years.

Participants will examine the women’s football pathway and identify practical interventions required to increase participation, strengthen youth development, improve competitions and national team performance, enhance technical and capacity development, strengthen governance, and increase the visibility and commercial value of women’s football.
