The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has received FIFA scholarships for 30 Ugandan women coaches to undertake an exclusive CAF C Coaching Course for women.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening the pathway for women to acquire coaching qualifications and take up technical roles across the game.
The residential course officially commenced on 17th August 2026 at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, and is organised by FUFA with support from FIFA through its Women’s Football Development Programme.
The course brings together women coaches, as well as former and current players with a passion for coaching, providing them with an opportunity to begin or advance their journey into the coaching profession.
Participants are undergoing theoretical and practical training designed to enhance their technical knowledge, coaching competencies and understanding of modern football.
The CAF C Coaching Course provides an important foundation for women entering the coaching profession, while also supporting former and current players seeking to transition from playing into coaching. The knowledge and competencies acquired will support their work across grassroots, youth, academies, schools and club football.
The scholarships are part of FUFA’s wider strategy to improve the quality and increase the number of qualified women coaches in Uganda.
Following FIFA’s invitation to its Member Associations to apply for the Women’s Football Development Programme- Coach Education Scholarships, FUFA identified and submitted candidates for consideration, with the applications subsequently approved by FIFA.
The initiative expands access to formal coach education for women and creates opportunities for more female coaches to progress within the technical side of the game.
The FIFA scholarships have seen 39 Ugandan female coaches enrolled for coaching courses at various levels all through FUFA programmes in line with FIFA’s commitment to supporting women in football.
The CAF C scholarships form part of a wider FIFA-supported investment in Ugandan women’s coach education.
In addition to the 30 coaches currently undertaking the CAF C Coaching Course, four Ugandan women coaches are on the CAF B Coaching Course: Nakiguba Cissy Gaudensia of the Women National Teams, Nabulobi Mercy of Sparta 09 Academy, Namugenyi Dorothy of URA FC Juniors and Birungi Sarah of Kikajjo Stars Sports Academy.
At CAF A level, five women coaches are undertaking the CAF A Coaching Diploma Course: Sharifah Nantumbwe, Jean Namayiga Sseninde, Sharon Kizza, Faridah Bulega and Oliver Mbekeka.
Together, the three levels represent a deliberate investment by FUFA in creating a progressive coaching pathway for Ugandan women, from foundational coaching education to the highest CAF coaching qualification.
The investment is expected to contribute to a growing pool of qualified female coaches capable of taking up technical and leadership responsibilities within women’s football, youth development, academies and national team structures.
