Quarter final, First Leg
West Nile 4-0 Kampala
West Nile Province put one leg into this year’s FUFA Drum semi finals after cruising past Kampala Province in the first leg of the quarterfinals.
In a thrilling encounter played on Sunday at Greenlight Stadium, West Nile took care of the visitors, registering a 4-0 win.

The hosts were boosted by the addition of the deadly attacking duo of Muhammad Shaban and Israel based Fahad Bayo who had not played in the previous round.

And the two did not disappoint with Shaban bagging a brace while Bayo was involved in all the goals to add to Cromwell Rwothomio’s strike.
Despite missing a number of key players, Kampala also paused questions to West Nile but the former had a solid back line manned by of Bright Vuni and Rashid Toha to give skipper and goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi the much needed cover.

With three minutes to the end of the first stanza, Shaban broke the deadlock, firing from distance to beat Were in goal.

The second stanza saw Kampala degrade further and the home side capitalised on this to add to their goal tally.

Sic minutes into the second half, Shaban got his second of the day, heading home Kawawa’s cross from the right.
Substitute Cromwell Rwothomio got the third goal with his first touch thanks to a neat pass from Bayo.

With eight minutes to stoppage time, Rwothomio initiated an attack from the middle of the pack and released Bayo who outpaced Andrew Kaggwa to lay in a cut back that Ngoobi almost connected into his own net before Gadaffi Wahab put it into the back of the net to dent Kampala’s semi final chances.

Bayo who was involved in all the four goals on the evening went on to be named Man of the match on his FUFA Drum debut and took home and accolade as well as USH 100,000 courtesy of Nile Special and FUFA.

The two teams will face off again in the return leg in Kampala on a date yet to be communicated.
