St. Mary’s Kitende SA were crowned inaugural winners of the FUFA Academies League after defeating Prosper Soccer Academy 1-0 in the final at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Sunday, 11th October 2026.

Ssekyanzi Alex scored the decisive goal in the 50th minute to secure victory for Kitende, who finished top of the Buganda Region group before overcoming Kampala Region leaders Prosper in the final.
The two sides earned their places in the final after impressive 18-match campaigns in their respective regional groups.

Prosper Soccer Academy topped the Kampala Region group with 51 points, recording 15 wins, one draw and two defeats. They scored 41 goals and conceded 10, finishing with a goal difference of +32.
Kitende led the Buganda Region group with 57 points from 18 matches, having registered 14 wins, three draws and one defeat. They scored 64 goals and conceded 17 for a goal difference of +47.
Kitende’s 64 goals were the highest tally recorded by any team across the two groups, while Prosper had the stronger defensive record, conceding just 10 goals.
The competition’s scoring system awarded four points for a victory by a margin of two goals, making such wins an important factor in the regional standings.
Individual awards
The inaugural edition also recognised outstanding performances and sportsmanship, with four awards presented.
Watoto Soccer Academy received the Fair Play Award, while Prosper Soccer Academy goalkeeper Mganda Swaleh was named Best Goalkeeper.


El Cambio Academy’s Samumba Angello took the Top Scorer award, while Ssekyanzi Alex of St. Mary’s Kitende SA was named Most Valuable Player.

Ssekyanzi capped his outstanding performance by scoring the winning goal in the final to deliver the inaugural title to Kitende.
The FUFA Academies League was introduced to provide young players with regular competitive football, strengthen academy development and create a structured pathway for identifying and nurturing talent for Uganda’s national youth teams.
