The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), together with Finance Trust Bank, has launched the annual Women Football Symposium, a platform that will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the continued development and advancement of women’s football in Uganda.
The symposium was unveiled on Thursday during a press conference held at the Finance Trust Bank headquarters in Kampala, with the inaugural edition scheduled for September 9th, 2026 at Skyz Hotel.
Finance Trust Bank, the title sponsor of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League and Women Elite League, has committed UGX 100 million towards the symposium.
The one-day event will bring together stakeholders from government, the corporate and media sectors, FUFA and women’s football clubs to discuss the progress of the women’s game, challenges affecting its development and opportunities for greater investment and collaboration.
The symposium comes ahead of the 2026/27 season of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League, which kicks off on September 12, 2026. It will also provide an opportunity to recognise outstanding performers and achievements from the 2025/26 season.
Speaking at the press conference, FUFA 2nd Vice President Dr. Azah Taibu thanked Finance Trust Bank for its continued investment in women’s football and for supporting the establishment of the symposium.
‘We appreciate Finance Trust Bank for the investment they have made in women’s football and particularly for supporting this symposium. Such partnerships are important in driving the continued development of the women’s game,’ Dr. Taibu said.
Dr. Azah Taibu highlighted the progress made in women’s football in Uganda in recent years, particularly through the strengthening of the national leagues and introduction of regional competitions.
‘As we have seen, women’s football in Uganda has grown tremendously in the last few years. The Super League and Elite Leagues have been strengthened and we also now have Regional Women Football Leagues,’ she said.
She also pointed to the performances of Uganda’s women’s national teams at regional and continental level as another indicator of the progress made.
‘Consequently, our different women’s national football teams have been performing well at the regional and continental levels. The game has without a doubt grown but there is more to be done, hence this symposium,’ she added.
The symposium forms part of FUFA’s continued efforts to strengthen the structures supporting women’s football while creating greater opportunities for players, coaches, clubs and other stakeholders across the game.
Finance Trust Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Percy Lubega reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting women across different sectors and its continued support for women’s football.
‘As a Bank, we are committed to putting women first and to helping women grow in every sector. This is why we have been sponsoring the women’s football leagues and why we are today also headlining this Women Football Symposium,’ Lubega said.
The inaugural symposium will provide a platform for stakeholders to take stock of the progress made in women’s football, exchange ideas and identify practical areas for further investment and development.
It will also lay the foundation for an annual forum through which FUFA, Finance Trust Bank and other stakeholders can collectively shape the future of women’s football in Uganda while recognising the achievements of those contributing to the growth of the game.
