The FIFA/FUFA Women’s Football Campaign, under the Women’s Football Development Programme which was launched in Uganda in West Nile in 2023, will head to Northern Uganda next month, with activities scheduled in Lira and Gulu cities between 3rd and 5th September 2026.
According to the programme, the campaign will kick off with a Coaches’ Workshop in Lira City on 3rd September, followed by the main festival in Lira on 4th September.
The programme will then conclude with a similar campaign in Gulu City on 5th September 2026.
The initiative mirrors the successful Women’s Football Festivals held in West Nile in 2023 and Bukedea in 2024 under the same programme.
Like in West Nile, the Northern Uganda edition will focus on grassroots development, talent identification and community engagement.
Activities will include small-sided games for girls in the age categories of 8-10, 11-12, and 13-14 years, skills challenges, fun football activities, as well as awareness sessions on safeguarding, gender equality, and career opportunities in women’s football.
The General Secretary of the Northern Region Football Association Daniel Ekaju will serve as the contact person for registration of teams-which is free of charge.
The campaign aims to increase girls’ participation in football, create visibility for the women’s game, and establish a sustainable development pathway in the region.
