FTBFWSL: Ayub Khalifa Reflects on Sixth League Title as Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC Clinch 2025/26 Championship

Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC clinched the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League title in dramatic fashion on the final day of the season, sealing their sixth league championship and their second since the competition was renamed in 2019.

The triumph further strengthened Coach Ayub Khalifa’s legacy, with the title adding to a decorated coaching journey that began with his first league success at Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC in 2015.

After a tightly contested campaign, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC finished top of the table with 52 points ahead of She Corporate FC to secure yet another landmark achievement in Ugandan women’s football.

In an exclusive interview with FUFA Communications, Ayub Khalifa spoke about Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC’s sixth league title and their consistency throughout the 2025/26 season.

FUFA Communications: Congratulations coach on winning another league title. What does this one mean to you?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: Thank you. Every title is special, but this one means a lot because it came after a very competitive season. The players showed great character and determination until the end. I thank them and I thank Allah for the victory.

FUFA Communications: This is now your sixth league title. How do you reflect on that achievement?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: It is a proud moment for me, but I always believe football is a team effort. The players, technical team, and management all played a key role. I also believe I have made a lasting impact on women’s football in Uganda through consistency and development since my first title in 2015 with Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC.

FUFA Communications: The title race went down to the final day. How challenging was the season?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: It was very challenging because several teams were highly competitive. It reflects how much the league has grown. You saw teams like Makerere University WFC competing strongly, Uganda Martyrs pushing She Corporate FC, and Kampala Queens challenging Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC.

That competitiveness gave me belief that results could go either way on any matchday. In the end, the pressure moments defined the season.

FUFA Communications: Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC completed a league double over She Corporate FC. How important were those results?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: Those matches were very important. They gave us confidence and momentum, and they also placed us in a strong position in terms of head-to-head advantage, which was crucial in a tight title race.

FUFA Communications: What pleased you most about your team this season?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: The discipline, unity, and fighting spirit. Even in difficult moments, the players continued to believe in themselves. We also played good football and ended the season as the highest-scoring team with 43 goals, which shows our consistency and attacking intent.

FUFA Communications: The team finished the first round on top and maintained consistency throughout the campaign. Was that part of the plan?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: Yes. The plan was to stay competitive from the start of the season. Finishing the first round on top gave us belief that we could sustain the challenge, and the players responded well to pressure until the final matchday.

FUFA Communications: How important was the support from the school management and fans?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: Very important. The management is our biggest supporter and provides everything needed for the team. The fans also played a huge role, travelling long distances, including to Soroti, to support the team. That support meant a lot throughout the season.

FUFA Communications: Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC will now represent Uganda at the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers. What are your expectations?

Coach Ayub Khalifa: We shall prepare well and represent Uganda with pride. We know it will be tough, but we are ready to compete.
