The Uganda U-17 Women’s National Football Team (Teen Cranes) on Friday afternoon held their final training session at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers return leg against Kenya scheduled for Saturday, 30th May 2026.
Uganda heads into the encounter after a 1-1 draw in the first leg played in Kampala and will be targeting victory to secure progression to the next round of the qualifiers.
Speaking after the training session, head coach Sheryl Botes stressed the significance of the match for both the players and women’s football in Uganda.
‘Tomorrow’s game is like a final for us. We have to win it for the people of Uganda and for women’s football specifically. Tomorrow is a do-or-die match for us.’
Botes revealed that the team had focused on improving its finishing following the numerous opportunities created in the first leg and expressed confidence ahead of the decisive fixture.
‘The environment is very positive and we believe we can beat Kenya tomorrow. We had many goal-scoring opportunities in the closing minutes of the first match, but we have now worked on certain key aspects that I believe will make the difference against Kenya.’
Team captain Vicky Atyeronimungu noted that the players are ready for the challenge and called upon Ugandans to rally behind the team.
‘As captain, I believe my team is well prepared for the game and I call upon all Ugandans back home to support us even though you are not here with us.’
The winner on aggregate over the two legs will advance to the next round of the African qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and will face either South Africa or Tanzania.
