CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship: Botes targets winning start against Djibouti

The Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team, the Teen Cranes, will begin their 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship campaign against Djibouti on Sunday at 4:00 PM (East Africa Time) at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The team concluded its preparations with a final training session on Saturday afternoon at the TRA Ground. The technical team focused on key areas for improvement identified following the international friendly against Ethiopia.

Head Coach Sheryl Botes expressed confidence in the squad ahead of the opening match, stressing the importance of starting the tournament with a positive result.

‘Today we had our final training session mainly to do a little repetition of how we want to play against Djibouti. The camp is positive and our first objective is to win the opening match,’ said Botes.

She highlighted improvements in communication, chance creation and efficiency in the final third as key focus areas for the team.

‘We focused on those areas from defence into the final third. I am positive that we will fight again tomorrow because we want to win our first match,’ she added.

Uganda is pooled in Group B alongside Djibouti, South Sudan and Zanzibar.
