Key Amendments in the FUFA Competitions Rules 2026

With the new StarTimes Uganda Premier League season getting underway tonight, all 18 clubs have been taken through key amendments in the FUFA Competitions Rules during the UPL Media Days.

The sessions were aimed at equipping clubs with knowledge on the updated regulations to support the work of club administrators, technical personnel, media and other stakeholders this season.

We take you through the key areas as per the amendments and those that will require more attention this season:

Amendments

Rule 33: Stadium and Match Facilities

1) No stadium or match facility shall host a FUFA Competition Match unless it has been approved by FUFA.

2) A club intending to change the stadium or match facility designated to host a match shall submit a written request to FUFA not later than seventy-two (72) hours before the scheduled kick-off time. A request submitted less than seventy-two (72) hours before kick-off shall be considered only in exceptional circumstances approved by the TOC.

Rule 35: Players

Youth Player Registration

Clauses 23-27, 29, 37-41, 46-49 highlight youth player registration, contracted but unregistered players, match day lists (use of foreign and youth players on match day) and shirt numbers

Rule 36: Technical personnel

Head coach and Assistant coach

9) The coaching requirements for the different clubs and teams for the different competition levels shall be as follows:

a) 1st Division League (Men): Head coach and an assistant coach, each holding at least a CAF A License and a Professional Coaching License
