Uganda representatives Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC stormed into the final of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers after a commanding 3-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) FC on Saturday.
The Valley Warriors made a bright start to the semi-final, controlling possession and dictating the tempo from the opening exchanges.
Their pressure paid off in the 13th minute when Agnes Nabukenya forced an Ethiopian defender into losing possession while attempting to play out from the back. Jovia Nakagolo pounced on the mistake and fired a low effort past the goalkeeper to give Kawempe the lead.
Kawempe remained in control for the rest of the first half and went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
The Ugandan champions continued in the same fashion after the restart, dominating possession and creating opportunities.
Their persistence was rewarded in the 54th minute when Nakagolo’s pressure forced Tigist Adane into scoring an own goal, doubling Kawempe’s advantage.
Nabukenya then put the result beyond doubt in the 72nd minute with a composed looping finish over the Ethiopian goalkeeper to complete the scoring.
The victory sees Kawempe Muslim become only the second Ugandan club to reach the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers, following She Corporate FC’s achievement in 2022 in Tanzania.
‘I am very pleased with the performance and the way the players executed our plan. We wanted to control the game, stay patient and make the most of the opportunities that came our way. The clean sheet is also important because it shows the discipline and concentration we have maintained throughout the tournament,’ said Kawempe Muslim head coach Ayub.
‘We have reached the final, but our work is not done. We will now recover, prepare well and focus on the final,’ he added.
The result also extends Kawempe Muslim’s impressive defensive record in the tournament, with the Ugandan champions yet to concede a goal.
Kawempe Muslim will now turn their attention to the final as they bid to secure Uganda’s place at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
