FUFA has secured four places for Ugandan women coaches on the CAF B Coaching Course through FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Programme – Coach Education Scholarships for the 2026 intake.
The initiative sits under FUFA’s women’s football strategy of improving the quality and increasing the number of qualified women coaches in Uganda.
Following FIFA’s open declaration of the availability of the scholarships to its Member Associations, FUFA initiated the application process, identified, prepared and submitted Uganda’s candidates. The applications were considered and approved by FIFA.
The four beneficiaries are currently undertaking the course at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
They are Nakiguba Cissy Gaudensia of the Women National Teams, Nabulobi Mercy of Sparta 09 Academy, Namugenyi Dorothy of URA FC Juniors, and Birungi Sarah of Kikajjo Stars Sports Academy.
‘FIFA created the scholarship. FUFA applied with our candidates. This approval strengthens Uganda’s pathway for women coaches from grassroots to elite level. We are grateful for FIFA’s support in capacity building for women and coaching development.’ said Ronnie Kalema, FUFA Executive Secretary Football Development

‘This directly supports our coach education objectives. Qualified coaches are central to player development, training standards, safeguarding and player welfare in clubs, academies and schools’ said Bashir Mutyaba, FUFA Football Development Director.

The FUFA Women’s Football Coordinator Joan Namusisi is elated about the FIFA Scholarship.
‘The challenge has always been that these female coaches do not have enough money to facilitate themselves through these courses, especially at CAF B and CAF A levels’ noted Namusisi.

What the coaches say;
The course is already changing their approach to the game.
‘I have learned to facilitate learning, not just instruct. That is essential when coaching young girls,’- Nabulobi Mercy.

‘We must plan with intention to produce professional players in the future,’-Namugenyi Dorothy.

‘At CAF D and C I was the only woman. Now on CAF B, we are four,’- Sarah Birungi.

‘Coaching is about teamwork. I will take this knowledge back to my club and the national team,’- Nakiguba Cissy.

The development is already shifting Uganda’s coaching numbers. Uganda currently has 3 CAF A-qualified women coaches, 10 CAF B-qualified, and more than 30 CAF C-qualified.
Through FIFA support, 5 women are enrolled on the CAF A Coaching Course, while the 4 coaches on CAF B could increase Uganda’s CAF B-qualified women from 10 to 14 upon successful completion.
FUFA is also preparing a CAF C Coaching Course exclusively for women, with around 30 coaches expected to enroll starting on Monday 17th August 2026 at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru
‘Investing in women coaches also creates leadership opportunities and role models for girls aspiring to build careers in football.’ noted Kalema
FUFA has been a beneficiary of FIFA’s continued support and reaffirmed commitment to building technical capacity as part of a sustainable women football ecosystem in Uganda.
