The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed former Crested Cranes captain Christine Wanyana as the draw assistant for the FUFA Women’s Cup draw scheduled to take place on Monday, 13 April 2026 at 10:00 AM.
The draw will be conducted live on FUFA TV and will set the stage for the seventh edition of the competition, with a total of 40 clubs confirmed to participate in this year’s edition.
Wanyana is regarded as a foundational figure in Ugandan women’s football, having transitioned from a distinguished playing career into coaching. A long-serving captain of the Crested Cranes, she was known for her leadership, composure and intelligent reading of the game during a career that spanned over a decade.
She played a key role in Uganda’s return to international competition in 2016, captaining the national team at the CECAFA Women’s Championship and in a series of high-profile international friendlies. At club level, she featured prominently for Buikwe She Red Stars during the formative years of the FUFA Women Elite League.
Following her retirement from international football in 2017, Wanyana moved into coaching and has since become one of the most qualified female coaches in the country. She holds a CAF ‘A’ Coaching Licence, placing her among an elite group of women coaches in Uganda, and continues to play an active role in the development of the women’s game.
Her appointment reflects FUFA’s continued efforts to recognise and honour the contributions of former players whose impact has helped shape the growth of the women’s game in the country.
The draw will determine the match-ups for round one, the preliminary phase, which will feature 32 teams drawn from the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League, FUFA Women Elite League, Regional Leagues and one non-league side from across the country.
Since its inception, the competition has produced several notable champions. Olila High School WFC won the inaugural title in 2017, followed by UCU Lady Cardinals FC in 2018 and Makerere University WFC in 2019. The tournament was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a three-year hiatus, the competition returned in 2023, with Uganda Martyrs High School WFC emerging as champions. She Corporate FC claimed the 2024 title, while Amus College WFC head into the 2025/26 season as the reigning holders.
