Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team (Teen Cranes) players Onyango Jennifer and Birungi Zainabu have expressed confidence and optimism as preparations for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026 qualifiers gather momentum.
The Teen Cranes, under the guidance of head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes, commenced training on Monday, 30th March 2026, at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, with a focus on building team cohesion, assessing player readiness and sharpening tactical awareness ahead of the upcoming fixtures.
Midfielder Onyango Jennifer described the sessions as productive and pointed to steady improvement within the team.
‘The sessions have been really good. We are improving in all aspects. We are working hard to make the nation happy,’ she noted.
Midfielder Birungi Zainabu of St Noa Girls FC also highlighted the tactical gains made early in the camp, particularly in defensive organisation and teamwork.
‘We have learnt how to retrieve the ball from the opponent, stay compact while defending and also work as a team,’ she said.
Uganda will face Zimbabwe in a two-legged encounter scheduled for 11th and 18th April 2026, with the aggregate winner advancing to the next round of the qualifiers.
