Kibirige strike sends SCVU into semifinals at Cecafa tourney
Victoria University (Uganda) 1 – 0 Mbeya City (Tanzania)
While his strikers are misfiring, coach Morley Byekwaso should at least be pleased that the rest of his team’s departments are not.
On Saturday, midfielder Jackson Kibirige struck the game’s solitary goal as Sports Club Victoria University in the quarter finals of the Cecafa Nile Basin tournament in Sudan.
The diminutive Kibirige who spent last season on loan at Bul FC struck a penalty after 70 minutes for his third goal in four games since returning to the club in the off season.
The other positive for Byekawaso’s side will be the fact that his team kept its fourth consecutive clean sheet and remain the only side yet to concede a goal in the tournament.
It was another scoreless night though for strikers, Mathew Odong and Ceaser Sapewo.
All four have yet to score in the competition which has seen three of the team’s five goals come through penalties.
SCVU will now play in the semifinals play Sudanese club Al-ahly Shandi after its 3-0 victory over the neighbouring South Sudan side Malakia.
The Semi finals will be held on Monday.
The tournament in its inaugural season is designed for teams that won domestic cup competitions in their respective countries.
