FUFA concludes consultations on new Women’s Football Strategy

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has concluded consultations on the development of a new Women’s Football Strategy following two days of engagement with key stakeholders from across the women’s football ecosystem.

The second and final Stakeholders’ Consultation Workshop was held on Tuesday at Jevine Hotel, Lubaga, bringing together stakeholders to shape the strategic direction of women’s football in Uganda for the next four years.

The consultations, supported by FIFA through the Women’s Football Development Programme, provided an opportunity to assess the current state of women’s football and identify priorities for its continued growth and development.

Stakeholders contributed to the formulation of strategic goals, identifying key priorities, interventions and actions required to strengthen the women’s game at all levels.

The second day focused on group discussions around strategic actions across key areas of the women’s football pathway, including grassroots and youth development, national teams, technical development and education, governance, media and marketing, and competitions.

The discussions built on the first day’s assessment of progress made under the previous framework, while identifying existing gaps and opportunities for further development.

Closing the workshop, FUFA Executive Committee Member Agnes Mugena thanked FIFA for its support and reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the consultation process.

‘We thank FIFA for the support towards FUFA through the FIFA Women’s Football Development Programme. As the Federation, we commit to ensuring that the strategy we have discussed is ready to take off,’ said Mugena.

Mugena also appreciated the facilitator and stakeholders for their contribution to the two-day engagement.

‘We want to thank the facilitator, Thuba Sibanda, for leading the facilitation of this workshop for the two days. I also want to thank all the participants for their contributions during this workshop.’

FIFA Women’s Football Expert Thuba Sibanda, who facilitated the consultations, described the engagement as a valuable experience and commended the depth of knowledge and perspectives shared by the stakeholders.

‘It has been two great days meeting the stakeholders. I must say I was impressed with the depth of knowledge in the room. We had people who were part of the initial stages of the game, as well as stakeholders from different regions, which gave us different areas of context and reality,’ said Sibanda.

Sibanda also thanked the stakeholders for their participation in the process.

‘I would like to thank all the stakeholders from FUFA, the Ministry of Education and Sports, the media and all the participants who spent these two days with us.’

The conclusion of the consultations marks a significant stage in the development of the new Uganda Women’s Football Strategy, which will build on the progress achieved under the previous framework while aligning with FUFA’s broader technical development agenda and Vision 2025–2029.
