Uganda Martyrs Triumph, Kawempe Held to Draw as Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League Second Round Action Gets Underway

St Noa Girls FC rescued a stoppage-time draw against league leaders Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC as the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League second round kicked off across the country on Saturday.

The warriors had taken the lead through Latifah Nakasi’s first-half strike, but a late equaliser from St. Noa captain Barbara Anomo ensured the game finished in a one-all draw.

Goalkeeper Lillian Nakirya was pivotal for St. Noa, earning Player of the Match award with a string of key saves. The Queen Cranes stopper denied attempts from Agnes Nabukenya twice and Jovia Nakagolo at crucial moments.

St. Noa made tactical changes in the second half, bringing on Martha Babirye, Dorcus Lwalisa, and Esther Babirye in place of Imelda Kesimire, Faridah Namirimu, and Patricia Nayiga. The substitutions improved the hosts performance, with St. Noa showing more composure as mid-morning rains eased in Kampala.

In added time, Anomo capitalised on a goalmouth melee from a corner kick to fire home the equaliser, securing a valuable point for her side.

Speaking after the match, St. Noa coach Richard Ntege credited the substitutions for the positive result.

‘We made changes that improved our play in the final third. Securing a point against the league leaders is a solid start to the second round,’ he said.

Kawempe coach Ayub Khalifa felt his team should have closed out the game.

‘We controlled most of the match but failed to double our lead and conceded a late equaliser. Our focus now is to address that as we prepare for the next game,’ he added.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Uganda Martyrs WFC defeated Lady Doves FC 2–0, with goals from Moreen Kizza, who was named Woman of the Match and captain Gloria Namugerwa.

In Soroti, Olila captain Mary Lotyang was named Woman of the Match as her side played a goalless draw against Makerere University WFC, while She Maroons FC and Amus College WFC also ended 0–0 at Luzira Prison Grounds.

Matchday 12 concludes tomorrow as Asubo Ladies FC host She Corporate FC at Kampala Quality Ground, while Rines visit Kampala Queens at Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
