FIFA U20 WCQ: Queen Cranes Hold First Training Ahead of Doubleheader Against Namibia

The Under-20 Women’s National Team, the Queen Cranes, have entered residential camp ahead of their two much-anticipated games against Namibia at FUFA Kadiba Stadium on 19th and 22nd September 2025.

The team, under the guidance of head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes, started training today at the same venue where the matches will be played. Out of the 32 players summoned, 27 have reported to camp.

Speaking to the press after today’s training, coach Botes said she is confident in the squad, especially as it includes senior players who have featured for the Crested Cranes in past matches.

‘We have started our camp today in preparation for Namibia. We expect four more players to join us in due course. We have a mixture of young players and those who previously played for the U17 and U20 teams. I believe we need to give the young ones exposure so they are able to compete with those who have played before,’ she said.

‘I am happy with our start so far. Day one is always a challenge as players need to settle and see how training goes. We need to give them belief and confidence. They are representing the national team, and I am confident the group I have selected can represent Uganda very well,’ she added.

‘We have quality players in the squad with experience and maturity, but we are also giving some new players a chance to showcase their abilities,’ she concluded.

The team will hold a single training session tomorrow at FUFA Kadiba Stadium.
