FUFA and Stanbic Bank hand over assorted items to Lira Babies Home and Teso Bar Community

On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, teams from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and Stanbic Bank were in Lira for the Stanbic Uganda Cup Final between Police FC and Vipers SC and as it has been in the past editions, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign is always carried out in the host district.

The teams were received by Dan Obote, a representative from the North on the FUFA Executive Committe and Sister Francis, the caretaker of Lira Babies Home.

While addressing the people at the handover, Leila Nankya the Events Manager at FUFA said that they were advised to provide support to the two communities so that they have one less problem to deal with.

“We were advised to come here, and support and these items were collected from well-wishers in the community. FUFA has brought clothes while other basic human items have been brought by Stanbic Bank,” She said.

Stanbic Bank was represented by Sunny Mucwampaka the Lira Branch Manager, Diana Kahunde the Marketing Manager and Bernard Ogwal the Northern Region Manager.

“At Stanbic, we looked at the most basic things to support the babies home. Specific items delivered include millet. This act represents what Stanbic Bank is, we are touching the community.” – Sunny Mucwampaka, Lira Branch Manager

“I want to thank FUFA for what they are doing in the community using football. At the bank, community is very important. I am happy to note that is a beginning. Home is critical. We cannot drive banking when homes are not taken care of.” – Diana Kahunde, Marketing Manager at Stanbic bank.

“The bank cares, what you are seeing is not the first and not the last.” – Bernard Ogwal, Stanbic Bank Northern Region Manager

Fred Frank Kumakech, the Commercial Director at FUFA highlighted the organisation’s commitment to helping the community as he made his address.

“Grateful for giving children a second chance to life and love; it’s our commitment as FUFA in carrying out our work to be empathetic and give love and hope in the community where we operate, and Lira Babies Home is just one of the beneficiaries of such many CSR activities that we run.” he said.

FUFA Executive Committee Member representing Northern Uganda thanked Sister Francis, the caretaker of the babies’ home and highlighted that the federation will see how best to keep supporting the facility.

“As FUFA we don’t only play football, the things we have delivered here is one of the ways we provide service. I also want to thank Sister for the work she is doing here. We shall engage with you on another day to see how else to provide support.” he said.

The FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim was represented at the handover event by Dr. Apollo Ahimbisibwe, an Executive Committee Member representing Kampala Region.

In his address, he commended the federation for having a policy that supports Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“I thank FUFA for having this policy, and Stanbic Bank for accepting to be our partners. We have done this since 2016.” he said.

“As FUFA, everywhere we host the Stanbic Uganda Cup Final, we reach out to the less privileged in the district.” he added.

“We do this because the organisation is run by human beings with a heart. Human nature forgets that when we have problems, it is humans to come and help.” he concluded.
