AFCON 2019 Qualifiers (Group L):
- Uganda Cranes 1-0 Cape Verde
Uganda Cranes outwitted Cape Verde 1-0 in an AFCON group L qualifier played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Saturday, November 17, 2018 to qualify for the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
Striker Patrick Henry Kaddu headed home the winning goal on the day that had a mammoth crowd.

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club player glanced home the only goal of the match in the 77th minute after a well delivered cross by Godfrey Walusimbi on the left flank.
Before the goal, Uganda Cranes had expressed the need to break the deadlock through Faruku Miya,
Hassan Wasswa Mawanda and Murushid Jjuuko got booked for Uganda and so was Cape Verde’s Luis Helder Viera Tavares.

The hundreds of spectators in the terraces included the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, King of Tooro Kingdom Omukama Oyo Nyimbi Rukidi IV, the Buganda Kingdom Premier Katikiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, Stats Minister for Sports, Hon. Charles Bakabulindi, FUFA Delegates and many other people.
Uganda Cranes is now on 13 points and becomes the first country in group L to seal qualification.

This is the seventh time that Uganda has now qualified for AFCON.
Uganda first played at AFCON in 1962, then, followed the 1968, 1974, 1976, 1978 and lately 2017 editions.
Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre saluted the effort of the players, fellow staff, media, fans and the federation towards achieving the qualification feat.
“It is with great joy that Uganda Cranes has qualified for AFCON 2019. I am very happy for the achievement. It has been the effort of the entire team that includes players, fellow staff in the technical area, media, fans and FUFA” Desabre told the media in the post match press conference.
The team will depart for Nigeria in the wee hours of Sunday morning ahead of Tuesday’s international friendly match.
