The 94th Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Ordinary General Assembly at White House Inn, Kabale District in Western Uganda has recognised former footballer James ‘Stone’ Zatwoshaho and football administrator, the late Patrick Kawooya.
The two were honoured with legendary awards for their role in promoting football in the country.
Besides the plaques, both Zatwoshaho and Kawooya also received a cash reward of Shs 1.1m each.
While presenting the plaques and cash, the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Hassim Magogo noted that it is important to honour people that have served the beautiful game over the years.
As FUFA, we feel it is important to honour and recognize the role played by individuals who served the game in the past with distinguished passion and dedicated service. They helped to lay the foundation and perhaps we would not be here.
Zatwoshaho appreciated FUFA for the recognition and all the efforts in developing the game of football.
“I have no words. I am grateful for this award. It means a lot to me. I want to thank FUFA especially the President Moses Magogo for a commendable job in developing football. Polycarp Kakooza has risen today through you FUFA President. I believe football is going places and I’m confident we shall qualify for the World Cup soon” the 84 year old Zatwoshaho, a defender in his playing days who equated the FUFA President to the late Rev. Polycarp Kakooza (a former football administrator).
The Late Patrick Kawooya was also recognised for his tremendous role at the time he was the SC Villa Club Chairman.
Kawooya was the key figure behind the all conquering SC Villa team that dominated the domestic league in the 1980s and early 90’s; winning 8 league titles and four Uganda Cups under his reign.

SC Villa did not only become a local giant but transformed the club into a continental power house reaching the final of the Africa Champions Cup in 1991 and CAF Confederation Cup final in 1992.
The late Kawooya’s award and accompanying cash will be presented to his family.
On behalf of the late Kawooya family, former SC Villa players Paul Mukatabala, Phillip Ssozi, Alex Isabirye, Hassan Mubiru recieved the plaque.
Who is James “Stone” Zatwoshaho
Born in 1934, James Zatwoshaho grew up in Kigezi region and went to Kigezi High School.
He played for Kigezi Province where he was spotted to join the national team in 1959 and played for eight years.
After his retirement in 1968, Zatwoshaho joined FUFA as an administrator.
He later moved to England for training in football management in 1973 and returned to Uganda joining the FUFA Executive Committee.
He retired from active administration in 1992. He is currently a farmer based in Kabale district
