MTN and FUFA Launch Campaign to Design the Next Uganda Cranes Jersey

MTN Uganda, in partnership with FUFA, has launched the ‘Free Your Fayaaa – Tulage Waaka’ campaign, a nationwide initiative inviting Ugandans to help design the next Uganda Cranes jersey.

The campaign gives fans and creatives an opportunity to contribute to one of Uganda’s most powerful symbols of national pride ahead of the national team’s upcoming continental engagements.

Inspired by MTN Uganda’s ongoing ‘Free Your Fire’ platform, the initiative seeks to transform supporters from spectators into creators by giving them a direct role in shaping the future identity of the Uganda Cranes.

For generations, the Uganda Cranes jersey has represented more than a football kit. It has served as a symbol of national pride, unity and belonging, connecting millions of Ugandans to the team they passionately support.

Through the ‘Free Your Fayaaa – Tulage Waaka’ campaign, MTN Uganda and FUFA have opened the design process to the public, giving fans and creatives an opportunity to contribute to the future identity of the national team.

Speaking at the launch, MTN Uganda Manager Sponsorships and Events John Paul Okwi said the campaign reflects the company’s commitment to creating platforms that enable Ugandans to express their talents and passions.

‘At MTN, we believe every Ugandan has a fire within them. Through our Free Your Fire platform, we continue to create opportunities for people to showcase their talents, ideas and ambitions. With Free Your Fayaaa – Tulage Waaka, we are inviting Ugandans to channel that creativity into something that will unite the nation. This is more than a jersey design challenge; it is an opportunity for Ugandans to leave their mark on the national team and create a symbol that reflects who we are as a people.’

Edgar Watson, the FUFA Chief Executive Officer, urged Ugandans to embrace the opportunity to contribute to the future identity of the Uganda Cranes through their creativity and innovation.

‘Everything we see was once an idea.’

FUFA 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha welcomed the initiative and described it as a unique opportunity to strengthen the connection between the national team and its supporters.

‘The campaign gives every fan a chance to add value and truly own the Uganda Cranes jersey they wear. To every Ugandan across the country, your creativity will carry our team onto the continent with pride during international competitions. The Uganda Cranes jersey carries the hopes, belief, pride and passion of millions. Together with MTN Uganda, let us design the next chapter of the Uganda Cranes jersey.’

The campaign is open to Ugandans from all walks of life, including professional designers, students, creative collectives and football supporters with original ideas. Participants may submit their jersey concepts individually or as groups through mtnmore.com.

Submissions will open on 22nd June 2026 and close on 9th July 2026.

Following the submission period, entries will undergo a selection process to identify the top seven designs. The finalists will then participate in a three-day boot camp from 14th to 16th July 2026 where they will work with experienced creatives and industry professionals to refine their concepts.

The journey from concept to creation will be documented before culminating in the selection, production and unveiling of the next official Uganda Cranes jersey.

The campaign will award a total prize fund of more than UGX 50 million across the winning and finalist entries.

MTN Uganda and FUFA have encouraged Ugandans across the country to participate by submitting their designs, sharing the opportunity with talented creatives and following the campaign journey as the nation comes together to create a jersey designed by Ugandans for Uganda.

Submissions can be made through mtnmore.com. Participants are also encouraged to share their journey online using the hashtags #MyCranesJersey and #FreeYoFire.
