U-17 AFCON Morocco 2026: Uganda Cubs drawn in Group B

The Uganda U-17 National Team (Cubs) has been drawn in Group B of the TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026, where they will face Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon and DR Congo.

The tournament will run from 18th May to 2nd June 2026, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the quarter-finals and securing qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Additional two teams via playoffs will progess too.

The Cubs head into the competition with growing pedigree, having made significant strides over the past decade to establish themselves as consistent contenders at continental level. Their journey began with a historic debut at the 2019 U-17 AFCON in Tanzania, where Uganda finished third in the group with four points, narrowly missing out on a semi-final place.

Uganda also qualified for the 2021 edition in Morocco after emerging champions of the CECAFA qualifiers, but the tournament was cancelled just days before kickoff due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2025 campaign marked a major breakthrough for the Cubs. The team participated in the 2025 edition and progressed to the FIFA U-17 World Cup play-off stage, where a 2-1 victory over The Gambia secured Uganda’s first-ever qualification to a FIFA World Cup tournament.

At the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, the Cubs delivered a historic performance, progressing to the Round of 16. The team registered memorable results, including a landmark victory over France and a disciplined win over Senegal in the knockout stage, before exiting on penalties to Burkina Faso. This achievement established Uganda among the top 16 teams in the world at U-17 level.
