UMEA Games 2026: Kawempe wins girls’ title, Kyaddondo are boys’ champions

Mbale City came alive over the past five days as Muslim-founded schools from across the country gathered for the 12th edition of the Uganda Muslim Education Association (UMEA) Solidarity Games. His Royal Highness Sir Jude Mike Mudoma the Omukuuka We Bamasaaba, opened the games.

Hosted successfully by Nkoma Secondary School from April 3rd to 6th, the tournament attracted 30 boys’ teams and 7 girls’ teams in a vibrant showcase of talent, unity and sportsmanship.

Kawempe Muslim Secondary School once again stamped their authority in girls’ football, securing a record-extending seventh UMEA title with a composed 2–0 victory over hosts Nkoma SS in the final. Their dominance continues to define the history of the competition.

After a tightly contested first half, Prossy Namataka broke the deadlock early in the second half, setting the tone for Kawempe’s control. Nabawanuka Belinda Hope later sealed the victory with a calm late finish, ensuring yet another triumph for the Kampala giants.

In the boys’ category, Kyaddondo Secondary School emerged champions after edging Masaka SS 1–0 in a fiercely contested final held at Mbale City Stadium.

The victory marked a historic milestone for Kyaddondo SS, securing their first-ever UMEA title after falling short in their previous attempts against Masaka and Kibuli.

Individual brilliance also stood out across the tournament. Nanjala Nevia of Nkoma SS finished as the top scorer in the girls’ category with three goals, while Kawempe’s Prossy Namataka was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player.

In the boys’ division, Nyanzi Reagan of Kibuli SS claimed the top scorer’s accolade with four goals, while Kyaddondo’s Masudi Raphael was recognised as the tournament’s best player for his outstanding performances.

The games concluded with a colourful closing and awarding ceremony at Mbale City Stadium on April 6th, graced by Prince Kassim Nakibinge, marking the end of yet another successful edition of the UMEA Solidarity Games.
