Kawempe Muslim 1-2 Uganda Martyrs WFC
Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga secured the third spot at the 2020/21 FUFA Women Super League after overcoming Kawempe Muslim Ladies on Wednesday.
Despite trailing at the break, Uganda Martyrs staged a comeback in the second stanza to win 2-1.
Kawempe Muslim took the lead through Allen Nassazi but two substitutes, Shamsa Najjuma and Spencer Nakacwa scored a goal apiece for the Lubaga based outfit.
Halima Kampi had the first attempt at goal for Kawempe Muslim but goalkeeper Daphine Nyayenga was equal to the effort.
On the other hand, right back Rebecca Nandhego was denied by the woodwork with her cross beating goalkeeper Juliet Adeke.
It was Nasaazi who opened the scores in the 21st minute with her strike deflecting off Gloria Namugerwa before going into the back of the net.
This was Nasaazi’s fourth goal at the tournament, three behind leading top scorer Fazila Ikwaput of Lady Doves.
Uganda Martyrs returned recharged after recess and coach Rogers Nkugwa called for changes introducing Shamsa Najjuma and Spencer Nakacwa for Esther Naluyimba and Immaculate Nakanjako respectively.
Najjuma levelled matters a minute after the hour mark when Anita Namata’s pass found her inside the area.
Nakacwa who formerly featured for Kawempe Muslim, turned guns against her former team tucking home the winning goal in the 82nd minute.
This is the second time that Uganda Martyrs WFC is finishing third in the League. The first came in their debut season (2016/17) when they defeated Olila High School in the third place playoff at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
