A delegation of 70 people including 24 players left the country for Lesotho on Sunday morning aboard a chartered flight offered by the head of state, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The group departed Entebbe International Airport with players, technical staff, FUFA Executive Committee members, FUFA delegates, Government officials and some fans aboard.

The group is expected to arrive in Maseru afternoon (around 2 PM local time).

The Leader of Delegation is Richard Ochom from North East Region FA.

Uganda Cranes face Lesotho on Tuesday, 16th October 2018 at the Setsoto stadium in the return tie of the double header whose first leg was won 3-0 by the hime team to reclaim top spot in group L.

Uganda Cranes restored their top spot in group L in the on-going Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers 2019 with an overwhelming performance following a 3-0 win over Lesotho at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Saturday.

Emmanuel Arnold Okwi notched a brace and Faruku Miya (penalty) were on target for the win that pushes Uganda back to the top with 7 points.

Ugandans on duty in AFCON Qualifiers this Weekend

TOTAL 2019 AFCON Qualifiers

10th -16th October 2018

Ugandan referees, assistants, assessors and commissioners were so busy in the continent in Friday and Saturday in the ongoing fixtures of 2019 AFCON Qualifiers between 10th-16th  October 2018.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) appointed center referee Alex Muhabi who was in charge of the Group H match between Ivory Coast and Central African Republic on 12th October 2018 at Stade De Bouake in Abidjan.

Mark Ssonko was the 1st assistant while Ronald Katenya the 2nd assistant.

Brian Nsubuga Miiro was picked as a Reserve Referee.

Egesa Wasonga Samuel is another Ugandan who was allocated as Referees Assessor in a Group K match between Mozambique and Namibia at Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto in Maputo on Saturday 13th October 2018.

Mike Letti was Match Commissioner in the match between Ethiopia and Kenya in the midweek.

Similarly, CAF also assigned Ronnie Kalema as a Referee Assessor in a Group E match when Seychelles hosts South Africa at Stade Linite, in Victoria, Seychelles on 16th October 2018.

TOTAL 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers (Group L)

  • Uganda Cranes 3-0 Lesotho Likuena

Uganda Cranes was unstoppable on Saturday, defeating Lesotho 3-0 during the  Total 2019 Africa Cup of Nations group L qualifier at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Emmanuel Arnold Okwi scored twice and Faruku Miya got the other from  rhe penalty spot.

Okwi’s opener arrived as early as the 10th minute with a well drilled left footed shot.

Miya added the second with a successful kick from the penalty spot after a foul on the impressive Okwi in the 36th minute.

In the second half, Okwi headed home the third goal after a decent cross from the left by Edrisa Lubega.

Uganda Cranes technical team made all the three changes in the game.

Ibrahim Sadam Juma replaced Joseph Ochaya after 58 minutes, Lubega was taken off for Patrick Henry Kaddu in the 70th minute and Isaac Muleme came on for Moses Waiswa with four minutes to the final whistle.

Uganda Cranes returns to the summit of group L with 7 points off three matches.

Cape Verde who defeated Tanzania 3-0 in Praia on Friday drop back ro second position with four points.

Tanzania and Lesotho both have two points each.

Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes will on Sunday morning (7am) fly out of the country for the completion of the back ro back fixture.

The return match will be played on Tuesday, 16th October 2018 in Maseru.

The stage is set at the historic Mandela National Stadium as the mighty Uganda Cranes host Lesotho national football team, popularly known as Likuena (The Crocodiles) this Saturday.
Uganda Cranes will proudly don the newly designed jersey, manufactured by kits company Mafro for the first time.
This is the first leg of 2019 Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) group L qualifier for the double header whose return leg will take place in Maseru on Tuesday, 16th October 2018.
Owing to the level of preparations since the Uganda Cranes kicked off their preparations with their non residential preparations for the home based players last week, the writing has been well scripted on the wall, the home team is ready.

Individual players led by the captain Denis Onyango have doubled their efforts in training sessions with sheer determination and commitment as they all eye maximum points.
“We are determined to give our best for the game. We need maximum points out of this game this Saturday. Lesotho is not a small team like many people think. Therefore, we have to work hard and collectively as a team” Onyango disclosed to the media in the pre-match press conference held at Namboole on Friday morning.
The head coach Sebastien Desabre and the rest of his technical team have done a tremendous task to assemble a formidable team and prepare the players mentally and physically.
Desabre says the team is prepared 200 percent for the double header starting with the first leg at Namboole.
“We have spoken to the players, trained well and they are prepared physically and mentally. The players know the importance of this match. We shall work hard to get the home win which will be a stepping stone to the return leg on Tuesday” Desabre told the media at the pre-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Lesotho players trained at Namboole Stadium on Friday evening for two hours.
Apart from Murushid Jjuuko, all the 23 other players in the camp at the Kabira Country Club in Bukoto will be available for selection.
Jjuuko is suspended after getting two cautions but will be available for the return leg when the team travels.
Uganda Cranes maintain their grip at the summit of group L with four points off two matches.
Tanzania and Lesotho have four points while Cape Verde has one point.

Uganda Cranes Vs Lesotho: Police, Traffic chiefs assure of affluent organization

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) International Match Organizing Committee (IMOC) along with the Uganda Police Force and Traffic departments have held a joint press conference at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Friday.

The essence of this press conference was to help notify the general public about the general arrangement for the fans prior to, during and after the game.

Issa Magoola, chairman of the FUFA International Match Organizing Committee, addressed the media flanked by the Federation communications manager Ahmed Hussein, Kampala Metropolitan Traffic commander SSP Norman Musinga and the Uganda Police Force deputy PRO Patrick Onyango.

Magoola urged the fans to acquire the match tickets at the designated selling points, purchase the tickets early and avoid the late rush.

SSP Musinga explained the general traffic flow and its management as well as hinting on the key parking places for motorists.

Uganda Police deputy PRO Patrick Onyango called upon all the fans to respect the regulations set by the law enforcement team that will have uniformed and non-uniformed policemen.

The preparations for the Uganda Cranes versus Lesotho match have progressed well. The match officials will come from Egypt, Commissioner (Egypt) and the referees’ assessor from Djibouti. The tickets are already on sale and the public is urged to acquire their match tickets at the designated selling points. There will be no ticket sale around the stadium. We urge that you come early and in big numbers.

We have ensured that there is a good traffic management plan to the public. The routes from the Wampewo round about to Kireka, Kinawataka zone and around the Northern By-pass will be normal traffic flow. Some sections of the road like around Sports View and Jokas hotels will be cut off. Only VVIP’s will access the main parking lot while the lower parking section below the Pioneer buses is for the general public. We shall follow the rules as stipulated by the Traffic and Road Traffic Act 1998.

We are asking the fans to abide by the regulations that we shall give time to time including the body search policy. We are still in an era of terrorism threats and therefore specific attention and care should be given.

Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre and the team captain Denis Onyango have promised a spirited showing against visiting Lesotho in the first leg of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers (group L).
The French born tactician and the Mamelodi Sundowns first choice goalkeeper were flanked by the FUFA Communications manager Ahmed Hussein as they engaged the media in an interactive press conference at the Mandela National Stadium boardroom on Friday morning.

Desabre noted that the players have the right frame physically and mentally with the best confidence levels and urged the fans to support the team just like it was the case against Tanzania in the last game at Namboole.
Onyango too, like the coach promised a spirited fighting from the first to the closing whistle.
The Uganda Cranes will don the newly designed new jersey for the first time during the Saturday game.

This game against Lesotho is an important one for qualification for Uganda Cranes to the Africa Cup of Nations.  The team is in good spirits. I have spoken to players and they understand the importance of this game. We have improved upon the level of confidence for the players. The three points will be crucial for the home fans and country as well. It is important to play good football as well. I am happy with the camp. We are ready. The win against Lesotho will be important to give confidence to the team in the ten months I have been in charge. We shall give 200 percent to the team. I urge the fans to support the team like they did against Tanzania. We need to qualify for AFCON as a unit.

We are ready to try our best in the game. Lesotho is not a small team. In football there is no small team.  They have not lost any game in the campaign.We want to go to Maseru with positive results. The advantage is that we are at home, we have to play our hearts out during the first leg. It is one game at a time. We believe we shall it to the next stage.

The Uganda Cranes camp at the Kabira Country Club, Bukoto is full board with all the players reported.
Goalkeeper Salim Jamal was the last player to report for duty and trained with the rest of the players on Wednesday, the same day that the national team had the launch of a new kit.
There were double sessions for the team in the morning and afternoon.
In the morning, the session lasted for close to two hours and was trimmed down in the afternoon to one hour.
For either sessions, the players expressed ultimate commitment, passion and the desire to give their all as the team prepares for the double header against Lesotho.

South African based winger Allan “Dancing Rasta” Kateregga, who plays for Cape Town City Football Club told the media after the morning training that they are focused for the game at hand against Lesotho.
“Our strategy is to play football. We are targeting victories from these two matches. We are yearning to win and everyone is focused. We are taking this chance with both our hands” Kateregga disclosed.
In the same spirit, midfielder Ibrahim Sadam Juma, who plays at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC expresses the urge to improve on the weak departments where the team needs to polish up coming to the double header;
“We need six points. We are aware of the threat posed by Lesotho and that is why we are not underrating them. We need to improve on the mistakes done from the previous game against Tanzania. We need to create, score and defend well. The mood in the camp is right and best” Sadam noted.
The Thursday session will be held behind closed doors as the team continues to prepare for the Saturday and Tuesday matches.

FUFA unveils Uganda Cranes, Crested Cranes new kits

FUFA has unveiled new kits for the national senior team men- The Uganda Cranes and Women (Crested Cranes).

The momentous event took place at the  Mandela National Stadium board room on Wednesday, October 10, 2018.

The event to unveil the new kit was graced by the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, who was flanked by; Justus Mugisha (FUFA 1st Vice President), Darius Mugoye ( FUFA 2nd Vice President), Executive Committee Members Chris Kalibbala, Issa Magoola, Airtel Uganda Head Brand and Communications Remmie Kisakye.

Uganda Cranes kit is in red, white and yellow colours with a V-neck design having the three national flag colours (Black, yellow and red) running down in an ivory format.

The kit has been manufactured by Mafro and was designed by Umar Mukasa, who emerged as the best in a competition set by  FUFA and monitored by the FUFA Marketing  and Communications department headed by Rogers Byamukama (FUFA Marketing committee chairman) and Esther Musoke (FUFA Marketing Director).

Mukasa will earn himself free access to all Uganda Cranes home games and a cash reward of Shs 2.5M.

Addressing the media during the jersey launch, the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo narrated the process upon which the successful person was reached.

The FUFA President also thanked the designer, manufacturer and all those involved to ensure the final product is up to standard.

We pray that the new jersey comes with luck as we seek to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 Cameroon’ Kisakye remarked.

Uganda Cranes and FUFA top brass were hosted by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House Entebbe at a function he organized to celebrate the 56th Independence Day with the team and football fraternity ahead of Saturday’s AFCON Qualifier with Lesotho at Namboole stadium.

In a jovial mood, the President discussed football matters with the contingent before he announced his offer of a chartered flight to fly the Cranes to Maseru for the reverse fixture against Lesotho to be played on Tuesday 16th October, 2018.

President Museveni also offered the Uganda Cranes contingent to State House a financial boost of UGX 200M (Two Hundred Million Shillings).

President Museveni congratulated the team for posting results that have kept the Cranes on top of the group in the campaign but urged them to work harder against Lesotho on Saturday.

‘I have been following you of recent and I thank you for the performance but we need to work harder for better results. I have offered you a chartered plane to Lesotho and UGX 200M to help you get good results’ said President Museveni

Speaking on behalf of the players, team captain Denis Onyango appreciated the President and the First Lady Janet Museveni (Minister of Education and Sports) for the recent support towards the Cranes and football.

The delegation to State House was led by FUFA 1st VP Justus Mugisha, accompanied by 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and the FUFA Finance Director Decolas Kiiza.

Kawempe Muslim SSS celebrating winning the Secondary Schools category at Kazo GroundUCA Lady Cardinals have been crowned 2018 Independence Cup Winners in the Clubs category after defeating Kawempe Ladies via kicks from the penalty mark on Tuesday at Kazo Ground.

The final clash between the two giants ended in a barren draw in the regular time nonetheless the match progressed to kicks from the penalty mark and UCU Lady Cardinals edged their rivals 5-4.

Goalkeeper Ruth Aturo saved Nakabugo Mariam’s spot-kick to hand Lady Cardinals the first-ever Independence trophy.

The Mukono based Women’s team received prize money of UGX. 700,000 and a trophy. UCU have now won the FUFA Women’s Cup and the Independence Cup this year.

In the other finals, Kawempe Muslim managed a 1-0 victory over Pride College Mpigi in the Secondary Schools category. The goal was scored by Nakato Rebecca in the 54th minute. Kawempe Muslim SSS bagged UGX. 500,000 plus a trophy.

In the Primary Schools category, Jolly Primary School defeated Bembe Hill Primary School 3-0 to emerge champions.

Nanyonjo Jarida, Tamale Hanisha and Nagadya Jovena scored for Jolly primary School.

UCU Lady Cardinals forward Hasfa Nassuna won the top scorer Award after netting six goals in the tournament.

Independence Cup runners-up Kawempe Ladies after receiving silver medals and the prize money from Chief Guest Chris Kalibbala. 

The Chairperson Uganda Women’s Football Association (UWFA) Margret Kubingi commended FUFA for sponsoring the event and believes it has covered some young talents mainly in Schools that participated.

‘I thank FUFA for sponsoring the event. It has exposed some of the young talents. UWFA have achieved alot from this tournament and we shall continue preparing such tournaments to bring the game closer to the  communities to identify new talent’ said Kubingi

There are barely four days to the Uganda Cranes home group L duel of the Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifier 2019 at Mandela National Stadium.
On Monday evening, as the team marked their first training session under residential camp arrangement, the 16 players in attendance along with the coaches all looked focused and determined for the job at hand.
From the players’ facial expression and their diligent display throughout the warm up drills to the ball work sessions, it was clearly evident, Uganda Cranes is a team on a mission come Saturday.

‘When we come out for training, we always give more than 100% . It is this same spirit that we want to display in the matches. We shall go for the all attack strategy against Lesotho and personally I am ready to utilise the chances once granted the opportunity’ striker Edirisa Lubega confessed before the media after the one and half hour training session at Namboole stadium.
Lubega was among the new faces that joined the rest of the players, majority consisting of the local based legion.
Others included Emmanuel Okwi, Godfrey Walusimbi, Denis Iguma, Murushid Jjuuko, Nico Wakiro Wadada, Joseph Ochaya and Allan Kateregga who attended the evening session.

The eight local based players who trained are; Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago, Sadam Ibrahim Juma, Timothy Awanyi, Patrick Kaddu, Isaac Isinde, Allan Kyambadde, Moses Waiswa and Tadeo Lwanga.
More players are expected to join the camp at Kabira Country Club on Monday evening ahead of Tuesday’s programme.
Uganda Cranes face Lesotho in a crucial double header duel at Namboole and in Maseru on 13th and 16th October 2018 respectively.
The training sessions continue on Tuesday-morning (8.30am Gym session at Kabira Country Club ) and afternoon (1.30 pm) at Namboole stadium.

FUFA to unveil new Uganda Cranes jersey at Namboole

FUFA has confirmed that the Uganda Cranes will wear a new look kit when they take on Lesotho on Saturday 13th October 2018 during the Total AFCON Qualifier 2019 at Mandela National stadium.

The latest development has been confirmed by the FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein.

‘We are ready to unveil the new kit for the Uganda Cranes and the Women National team-Crested Cranes on Wednesday. The function will be held at Mandela National Stadium’ said Hussein.

The Historical Uganda Cranes jersey used at the AFCON Finals 2017 in Gabon will be retired officially by FUFA this week. A new kit will be unveiled on Wednesday 10th October 2018 at Namboole stadium.

The function to be held on Wednesday 10th October 2018 will be attended by the media and players of the National team.

The ceremony will start at 11 am-Mandela National Satdium, Namboole.

The Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has named a 24 man Squad to enter residential camp at Kabira Country club starting Monday 8th October 2018.

The final squad was named after three days of rigorous training that included a trial match between the Uganda Cranes local based players and a select team of U17, U20 and U23 players at Lugogo.

Uganda Cranes will play Lesotho on Saturday 13th October at Namboole and three days later in Maseru on 16th October.

The players will have an afternoon training session at Namboole Stadium starting at 4pm.

Buganda Province have gone down the books of history as the maiden winners of the FUFA Drum tournament.

Buganda edged West Nile 2-1 on aggregate in the two legged final to win the inaugural edition of the inter- province championship of 16 teams.

Carrying a 1-0 advantage heading into the return leg on Saturday at Green Light stadium in Arua, Buganda put up a resilient performance to emerge winners.

West Nile who were backed with support from thousands of fans started the better side but the visitors too had their chances.

The home side got the much desired lead after several attempts through BUL FC forward Villa Oromchan four minutes to the break.

Oromchan jumped high to head home a well delivered cross from left back Rashid Okocha and this seemed to give West Nile momentum.

The White Rhinos were however affected with injury blows in the second half-first with Geriga Atendere limping off while Rashid Toha too walked off after sustaining an ankle injury.

With eleven minutes to time, Viane Ssekajugo who has had a sublime performance in the tournament levelled matters.

Rashid Toha aims to clear the ball out of danger. He never completed the game due to injury.

Dan Birikwalira, the captain for Buganda won possession in the midfield to lay up Ssekajugo on the rift. The diminutive winger cut inside on his strong left and with a low drive at the near post got to the back of the net.

Buganda held off pressure to eventually win the trophy that came with a cash prize of 32 million shillings while the runners up West Nile got 15 million shillings.

Ssekajugo was named man of the match and later on the Most Valuable player of the tournament.

Buganda Kingdom Sports Minister Owek. Sekabembe Henry, Cultural leaders from Ringa, Alur and Lugbara were represented by their Prime Ministers and Kings. FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo was also in Arua as he handed over the trophy to the winners.

AFCON Qualifiers 2019: Uganda Cranes start preparations for double header against Lesotho

Uganda Cranes kicked off preparations on Friday morning at Lugogo for the double AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against Lesotho to be played on 13th October 2018.  Sixteen local based players took part in the lively session at the StarTimes Stadium.
The session started with warm up drills and later climaxed with shooting practices.

The Uganda Cranes Head coach Sebastien Desabre highlighted the importance of the sessions conducted with the local based players who trained in the morning and a select Squad of U17, U20 & U23 players who will have their sessions at 3pm today on the same pitch. The same programme will continue tomorrow at Lugogo.

‘We shall conduct several sessions with the senior local based and the selected junior players to asses their levels of fitness and attitude The sessions will climax with trial match between the senior team and the selected team on Sunday morning at Lugogo’ said Desabre.

Sebastien also revealed that Julius Poloto is injured and won’t be able to train with the team.
The team continues with the preparations on Saturday morning (8am) and the select Squad (U17, U20 and U23) at 3pm on the StarTimes Stadium turf.

FUFA releases breakdown of cash prizes 

The FUFA Drum Organising Committee has released the breakdown of the cash prizes for teams and most outstanding individuals as the tournament climaxes on Saturday 6th October 2018 in Arua.

West Nile trailing 1-0 from the first leg will host Buganda in the return leg match at Green Light Stadium Arua.

FUFA announced at the start of the tournament that 100M would be staked in cash prizes for the tournament. The winner of the tournament that has featured 16 Provinces will take home UGX 32 M. The runner up will be given UGX 15 M. All semifinalists will be given UGX 5M each. Outstanding Individuals-Most Valuable player, Top Scorer, best fan, players in the best XI and return leg Final match referees will get UGX 1M each.
