Background

The pilot FUFA Academies League is part of FUFA’s broader commitment to structured youth football development across the country. The competition is aligned with the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS), which supports member associations in identifying, nurturing and developing young football talent.

Through the TDS programme, FUFA has strengthened grassroots structures by enhancing coaching education, improving talent identification systems and increasing access to competitive matches for young players. The league serves as a key pathway within Uganda’s football ecosystem, bridging the gap between grassroots football and elite competition while contributing to the long-term growth of the game.
