Uganda Cubs pip Djibouti to make AFCON U-17 Finals once again

2020 CECAFA U-20 Championship (AFCON U-17 Qualifiers)

Semi-finals:

Uganda 1-0 Djibouti

Tanzania 1 (4) – 1 (2) Ethiopia

Uganda National U-17 team (The Cubs) qualified for the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations U-17 tournament that will be staged in Morocco.

The Cubs achieved the feat with a hard fought 1-0 win against Djibouti in the semi-final well contested at the Stade Umuganda in Rubavu District, Rwanda on Sunday, 20th December 2020.

Lethal striker Oscar Mawa scored the lone all important goal in the 89th minute to break down the resilience from Djibouti.

Mawa has now scored 6 goals for Uganda following a hat-trick and brace against Kenya and Ethiopia respectively during the group stages.

 This is the second consecutive qualification for Uganda.

Meanwhile, Uganda Cubs will now face Tanzania in the final on Tuesday, 22nd December 2020.

Tanzania overcame Ethiopia in the other semi-final 4-2 in tense post match penalties after a 1 all draw in normal time.

Uganda is the defending champion of the tournament.
