Three Uganda Women National teams to face CECAFA rivals in World cup Qualification bids

Uganda’s three Women National teams the U17, U20 and Crested Cranes (Senior Side) were handed their opponents after CAF conducted draws on Monday afternoon for the forthcoming tournaments.

The draw was held in Cairo, Egypt at the Headquarters of CAF.

CAF will use the tournaments for Continental Qualifiers and decisive for teams that will represent Africa at the three Women World cups of U17, U20 and Senior teams.

Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2022-1st round

44 Countries including Uganda entered their teams for the Qualifiers that will kickoff with 1st round action.

Uganda was drawn against Ethiopia in the 1st round of the Qualifiers to be played between 7th-15th June 2021 with an eye to feature in the Finals to be hosted by Morocco who got automatic qualification.

Matches 1& 2 involve Uganda and Ethiopia in the 1st round. Matches 3&4 have Kenya and South Sudan- Uganda’s possible opponents in the 2nd round.

The winner on aggregate between Uganda and Ethiopia will face either Kenya of South Sudan in the 2nd round qualifying phase between 18th-29th October 2021.

Match 45/46 will see winners of Matches 1&2 (Uganda Crested Cranes vs Ethiopia) vs Winners of Matches 3&4 (Kenya vs South Sudan) in the second round of the Total Women Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers

12 teams will take part in the Finals of the 12th edition of AWCON.

Uganda vs Ethiopia

The youngsters of Uganda U17 women team were just 180 minutes away from a dream world cup qualification only for Covid-19 to strike the entire globe.

They were headed for India initially but will have another attempt though with changed playing staff as some of them will graduate to the U20 Women team.

Uganda has been drawn to play Ethiopia with the qualifiers starting in January 2022 as they plan for the journey to India. The Qualifiers of this age category will have 4 phase. Uganda will start at the 2nd round stage.

Three teams will represent Africa at the FIFA U-17 Women World Cup-India 2022.

Uganda to face Kenya in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022Qualifiers

The last time Uganda U20 Women team played a match, they were knocked out by Tanzania at home. It was a bitter pill to swallow that afternoon at Lugogo.

They will have a chance to negotiate their start at the 2nd round for the trip to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 with a match against another neighbor Kenya. Dates have been fixed for; 1st leg 23rd-25th September 2021 while the 2nd leg 7th-9th October 2021.
