Stanbic Uganda Cup current holders Vipers SC booked a place in the last four after eliminating rivals Wakiso Giants FC in the Wakiso derby on Sunday.
The Venoms ensured their quest for an elusive domestic double remained on course by dispatching the Purple Sharks 3-1 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.
2021 Airtel FUFA Male Player of the year Bobosi Byaruhanga opened the scoring midway through the first half before a second half double from Yunus Ssentamu sealed victory for visiting Vipers.
The hosts got their consolation late into the game through forward Sam Ssenyonjo who is on loan from KCCA FC.
Byaruhanga broke the deadlock in the 21st minute finishing off a well worked run that had Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye feeding the former for the opening goal.
Vipers SC doubled their advantage only five minutes into the second half with Ssentamu finding himself in the right place to finish off a Milton Karisa pass.
The ‘Hitman’ as popularly christened once again came punishing, getting his second of the day and Vipers’ third in the 80th minute.
The only positive for the home side came five minutes to the end of time with Ssenyonjo getting the consolation as the Purple Sharks got dumped out.
With just two points away from clinching the League title in the final five games, the Venoms will now have an eye and probably more emphasis put at winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup as well to add to the two they already have (2016 and 2021).
They join Booma FC in the semifinals. The Masindi based outfit stunned Maroons FC on Saturday to extend their fairytale run in this year’s edition.
Action continues on Monday with SC Villa hosting BUL FC at FUFA Technical Centre Njeru while Mbarara City FC will face Mbale Heroes FC on Wednesday to determine who takes the remaining two slots.
