The Nnaabagereka of Buganda Kingdom, Sylvia Nagginda, has welcomed and blessed the new FUFA Women Super League trophy as part of its tour to visit influential women in the country.
The trophy, standing at 4.55m tall, was presented to Her Royal Highness by former league champions Catherine Nakiridde of UCU Lady Cardinals FC and Lydia Nyandera of Lady Doves FC at the Kabaka’s Palace in Mengo.

The event coincided with the launch of the Ttabamiruka W’abakyala 2025 ceremony, themed ‘Twongere obuwagizi mu mirimu gy’abakyala olw’enkulakulana’ (“Let’s increase support for women’s projects for development”).
The FUFA delegation, led by 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and Deputy Executive Secretary Rogers Mulindwa, was warmly received by the hosts.

Nnaabagereka thanked FUFA for promoting women’s football, highlighting the numerous benefits of sports to the nation and its people. She emphasised the importance of sports in improving brain function, mental health, discipline and organisation among children and its potential to transform economies.
‘I want to start by thanking FUFA and our daughters who play football for lifting our flag to international standards. Sport generally is very important that is why back in the day every school had to have a pitch, sports/physical education as a subject and teachers dedicated to teaching sport as a must. Today some schools may not have pitches but the importance of sports among the youth cannot be undermined.’ stated Nnaabagereka.
The Nnaabagereka concluded by stressing the need for committed efforts and investment in sports, given its lucrative nature globally.
‘Sports trains children to be organized and disciplined and if taken serious through committed efforts and investment, sport has the ability to transform economies because it is a very lucrative industry world over.’ noted Nnaabagereka.
The FUFA Women Super League trophy tour, which has already visited prominent women such as Susan Nsibirwa (Nation Media Group MD), Sylvia Mulinge (MTN Uganda CEO), Hellen Mukiibi (Senior News Editor, New Vision) and Susan Makula Bugingo, aims to engage influential women in celebrating the league.

The tour will conclude on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, with a special event hosted by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni at Statehouse.
