Federation of Uganda Football Federations (FUFA) on Wednesday, 23rd January 2019 successfully interacted with other sports federations in a brain storming session held at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala.
In attendance were the Presidents, Chairmen and General Secretaries of the Sports Federations registered with National Council of sports, NCS acting general secretary Dr. Benard Patrick Ogwel (also represented the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni), Airtel Uganda officials led by the Managing Director Somaeskhar as well as the brand and communications manager Remmy Kisakye.

‘FUFA has come out to share with the rest of the sports federations the achievements and how best to overcome challenges in line with our vision of being the best footballing country in Africa. FUFA has put up good corporate governance. We have dedicated a lot of time to football development and put in place systems, rules. We have recruited professionals and motivated them as well’ – Eng. ‘Airtel Uganda has sown the seeds for a bright future with the Airtel Rising Stars that has supported grassroot football since 2011. We should not limit the game of football to Mandela only. We should spread the game to all corners of the country. Let’s make optimal use of the digital technology’ Airtel Uganda Managing Director VG Somasekhar.

The FUFA President, Eng Moses Magogo in his presentation highlighted the gradual progress of FUFA with a detailed narration of the rich history since inception in 1926.
He also elucidated the 8 focus areas of Governance, Administration, Finance, Football Development, Infrastructure, Competitions, its Membership, Marketing and Communications.

Some of the sports federations and associations that graced the historic forum included Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), Baseball and Soft Ball Association, Uganda Tennis Association (UTA), Uganda Rugby Union, Uganda Ludo Association (ULA), Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) among others.
FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and the communications manager Ahmed Hussein were the main moderators.

‘National Council of Sports is honoured to have a federation like FUFA. This is a story of encouragement to borrow a leaf from. FUFA success story should be used as a case study for federations. NCS is working hard to have an enabling sports law and a strategic sports plan’ – Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel.

‘Sport has marketed Uganda beyond beyonds. It has the powers to break barriers. Let us all pick an insight from what FUFA is advocating’ Uganda Olympic Committee President, William Blick.

‘This forum is useful and I thank FUFA for taking the lead. We need similar workshops. Personally, I call for gender balance in sports development. Sports federations should give interest to women involvement in sports development’ Peninah Kabenge.
‘This has been a great day to have all sports bodies of Uganda in one room for a common cause. This is just the beginning of the great things to come and we believe that together we can achieve all the deeds’ FUFA Executive committee member, Rogers Byamukama


‘We must acknowledge that football is not on the same wavelength as the rest of the sports disciplines. We need a specific pathway for progress’ Uganda Rugby Union President, Andrew Owori.

‘This is a historic moment that all sports federations are under one roof to discuss what concerns their own affairs. Thank you FUFA for organizing. We need to encourage our own sports federations to have a Television channel dedicated to own local sports entirely and I am pushing it personally at UBC TV’ Cedric Babu.

‘The media in Uganda has done a tremendous job in as far as nationalistic reporting of sports events. I personally realized a change in the way of reporting from the past’ – Airtel Brand and Communications Manager, Remmy Kisakye.
