FTBFWSL: Kawempe Drop Points in Luzira, Kampala Queens Triumph in Soroti

The Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League delivered mixed fortunes on Saturday morning as Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC dropped valuable points at Luzira Prison Ground, while Kampala Queens FC kept their title hopes alive with a hard-fought victory in Soroti.

Late heroics from Latifah Nakasi rescued a point for Kawempe Muslim Ladies, as the Valley Warriors were held to a one -all draw by She Maroons FC. Despite dominating the entire second half and creating numerous chances, Kawempe were frustrated after failing to pick up maximum points in a game they largely controlled. The result leaves them with 33 points, just one ahead of She Corporate FC, who host Lady Doves FC tomorrow.

The opening minutes were cagey, with both teams cautious and few realistic chances created. Kauthara Naluyima broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a thunderous long-range strike that left goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje with no chance. After taking the lead, She Maroons adopted a compact 4-5-1 formation, inviting Kawempe to control possession while prioritising defensive solidity.

At halftime, Kawempe coach Ayub Khalifa made two tactical adjustments, bringing on Shadia Nabirye to add pace on the flanks and Zainah Nambozo to provide additional creativity in midfield. These changes shifted Kawempe into a more aggressive 3-5-3 shape, allowing them to overload She Maroons in wide areas and exploit spaces between the lines. The visitors dominated possession and consistently threatened the goal, forcing the hosts to retreat deeper and defend in numbers.

Their tactical persistence paid off in the 78th minute, when Nakasi capitalised on a loose ball in the box to fire home the equaliser. Kawempe nearly snatched all three points, but Nakasi narrowly missed from a free kick just outside the box, leaving them to settle for a draw. The result means Kawempe have dropped four points in two away games in the second round.

‘We controlled the game in the second half and created clear chances, but we were unable to convert them. It’s frustrating to drop points in back-to-back away games,’ Coach Ayub Khalifa said after the game.

Meanwhile in Soroti, Kampala Queens FC secured a second consecutive win with a 1–0 victory over Olila High School WFC at Olila Ground. Namaganda Zaituni’s 31st-minute strike proved decisive in a game watched by a large crowd, while Peace Muduwa was named Woman of the Match. The result keeps the Queens firmly in the title conversation, while Olila remain in search of their first win this season.

Matchday 14 action concludes tomorrow with four exciting encounters. She Corporate FC will look to reclaim top spot when they host Lady Doves FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. At St. Gerald’s Ground, Uganda Martyrs HS WFC welcome Makerere University WFC. Elsewhere, St Noa Girls FC host Rines SS WFC at Mutessa 11 Stadium, while Asubo Ladies FC entertain Amus College WFC at Kampala Quality Ground.
