FTBFWEL: UPDF WFC, Lira City Queens and Boni Consil Girls set early pace as 2025/2026 season gets underway

The 2025/2026 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Elite League returned on Saturday with commanding performances, intriguing moments and notable support across various venues across the country.

The second division on the pyramid of women’s football in Uganda got underway with eight games simultaneously, among the standout performers on Matchday One were UPDF WFC, Lira City Queens FC and Boni Consil Girls FC, who registered the biggest wins of the opening round.

At Bombo Barracks Ground, UPDF WFC began their campaign on a bright note with a 2–0 victory over PISGBC Queens FC, courtesy of goals from Nakalyango Sandra and Aloyo Naume Joan.

Lira City Queens FC delivered one of the most dominant displays of the day at Lira P/S Playground, defeating Highway Ladies FC 3–0. Elizabeth Apili bagged a brace, while Flavia Anyinge added the third to secure maximum points.

Boni Consil Girls FC matched that scoreline with a convincing 3–0 away triumph over Buhimba Ladies Saints FC at Kigaya C.O.U Playground, laying down an early marker in the competition.

Elsewhere at King Oyo Sports Complex, FC Tooro Queens edged Police Women FC 2–1, with Kabucurezi Mary and Kabogabe Sheila on target for the hosts. At Amus College Stadium, Goldstar H/S Ladies FC secured a 2–0 victory over UCU Lady Cardinals FC through goals from Nekesa Abigail and Kusiima Margret.

In Pabo at Gulu H/S Playground, Pabo United WFC and Jinja United WFC shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw, as Akello Maryline and Patricia Babirye found the net for their respective sides.

One of the notable highlights of the day came at Nyakasanga P/S in Kasese, where fans turned up in large numbers to support the home side, She Kasese Soccer Club. However, URA Ladies FC secured a narrow 1–0 away victory.

Proscovia Namataka scored the decisive goal to earn her side maximum points on the road in a closely contested encounter.

At Soroti Sports Ground, BUL Women FC edged Ateker WFC 1–0 thanks to Balainayo Hadijah’s strike, rounding off an opening weekend that set the tone for what promises to be a competitive and closely contested 2025/2026 campaign.
