FIFA U-17 WWCQ: Namatovu emphasises off-ball movement as Teen Cranes build momentum in camp

The Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team has continued its residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, as preparations for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Zimbabwe gather pace. With steady progress in camp, the Teen Cranes are focused on translating their preparation into performance.

Teen Cranes midfielder Namatovu Esther has emphasised the importance of off-ball discipline and possession play as the team sharpens its tactical approach. Training sessions have increasingly centred on structure, movement, and cohesion, which are key elements expected to influence performance in the upcoming fixture against Zimbabwe.

Speaking after today’s session, Namatovu highlighted the need for efficiency both in and out of possession.

‘We have to keep possession well and also improve how we move off the ball,’ she noted, reflecting the team’s growing understanding of positional play and decision-making.

The Standard High School Zzana player also expressed her delight at being part of the national setup, emphasising the determination within the squad to deliver positive results.

‘I am happy to be part of the camp. We are working tirelessly to get a positive result in the first leg,’ she added.

The Teen Cranes continue to undergo intensive training sessions aimed at improving match fitness, tactical awareness, and team chemistry. The technical team has placed emphasis on quick transitions, maintaining shape, and controlling key phases of play as the team builds cohesion.

Uganda will face the Zimbabwe U-17 Women’s National Team in a two-legged tie scheduled for 12th and 18th April 2026, with the aggregate winner progressing to the next round of the qualifiers.
