End of the road for Crested Cranes at WAFCON after drawing against Burkina Faso

Uganda’s journey at the 2022 TotalEnergies Women Africa Cup of Nations agonizingly came to an end on Friday following a draw against Burkina Faso.

In the game played at the Mohammed V Stadium, Casablanca, Crested Cranes took the lead twice but could only settle for a point.

Margret Kunihira and Sandra Nabweteme scored a goal each in rge opening stanza but the Burkinabes responded through Adama Congo and Naomie Kabre.

Coach George Lutalo made three changes to the team that had started against Morocco with Daisy Nakaziro starting in goal ahead of captain Ruth Aturo who was ruled out due to illness.

The other changes saw Aisha Nantongo return to the back line given the fact that Sumaya Komuntale was suspended while Kunihira started ahead of Rita Kivumbi.

Uganda started the better side taking the lead in the 7th minute finishing from close range after a neat pass by Shamirah Nalugya.

Burkina Faso were reduced to ten players with defender Madinatou Rouamba sent off for fouling Fauzia Najjemba in the 17th minute.

Despite the numerical advantage, the Burkinabes remained composed and leveled matters with Congo sending a low drive past goalkeeper Nakaziro.

Nabweteme restored parity moments later but Burkina Faso once again fought back to find the equalizer through Kabre.

The second half produced several scoring opportunities but neither of two teams able to add a goal.
