Dr. Patrice Motsepe has on Friday been voted as the new President of the Confederation of African Football(CAF).
Motsepe who was unopposed was confirmed as the new President during the 43rd CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco. His four-year tenure will run between 2021-2025.
The South African business mogul who is also the owner of PSL side Mamelodi Sundowns replaces Ahmad Ahmad who has been the CAF President since 2017.
The CAF Executive Committee Representatives for the Zones that constitute the continental football body were also voted at the same Assembly and are as follows;
Wadie Jary (Tunisia) – North
Mustapha Raji (Liberia) – West A
Seidou Mbombo Njoya (Cameroon) – Central
Djibrilla Hamidou (Niger) – West B
Souleiman Waberi (Djibouti) – Central East
Elvis Chetty Flag (Seychelles)- South
Maclean Letshwithi (Botswana) – South
Kanizat Ibrahim (Comoros) – Female
Going to the General Assembly, Africa adopted a unity stance which saw other three candidates, namely Augustin Senghor, Ahmed Yahya and Jacques Anouma withdraw from the race to be President.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who was in attendance in Rabat in his remarks in the General Assembly commended the African Member Associates for the unity they have displayed in the last few weeks.
Dr. Motsepe, 59, is an accomplished South African businessman and philanthropist and no stranger to football. For almost two decades, he has been the President of a South African club, Mamelodi Sundowns.
