FUFA launches Anthem, Unveils Flag

FUFA launches Anthem, Unveils Flag

Identity is a key aspect to any organization. It offers a sense of belonging and uniqueness as represented by distinctive traditions, colors, logos, themes, anthems and flags among others.

In a bid to transform the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) into a more corporate body, the local football governing body has gone through the aforementioned steps to create a unique brand since 2013.A case in point is the FUFA logo that changed in 2014.

On Tuesday, the Federation officially unveiled the new FUFA anthem and FUFA flag in a function held at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The Anthem composed by FUFA President Eng. Moses Hassim Magogo and sung by music diva Irene Ntale depicts the spirit of nationalism calling upon all Ugandans, fans, Sponsors and Government to rally their support towards the different National teams.

The Anthem as well embeds the spirit of unity calling the different stakeholders to be one family and develop the game together.

FUFA President indicated that he got the inspiration of writing the Anthem while on a football trip and stated that this will help to foster unity among the different football clusters.

“I got the inspiration in the middle of the night on a football trip in one of the Arab Countries, I wrote the lyrics and shared with people who know music and I believe the Anthem will be a factor for unification. Music is as source of inspiration and even in wars, people always sing to get motivated. I’m glad that we have continued to build regalia and brand of the institution of FUFA.” He said.

FUFA Flag Unveiled

On the same event, the FUFA flag was also unveiled. White in colour, the flag carries the FUFA logo as a sign of belonging as per the FUFA Statutes.

The President indicated that the choice of white colour was to symbolize purity and transparency in the game.

Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel the National Council of Sports, Assistant General Secretary lauded FUFA for the positive changes and asserted that the progress is currently streamlined and Government is now in harmony with the Federation.

The Anthem will be played on FUFA official events and functions including the General Assembly, football games and conferences among others. The FUFA flag in the same capacity will be used at FUFA events and put in football offices.

Both the flag and the anthem were passed after a resolution from the FUFA Executive Committee.

Preparations for the successful 2017/18 Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter finals continue to progress with smoothly.

On Thursday, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in conjunction with the tournament main sponsors, Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited have held a well attended press conference at Kati-Kati Restaurant, Lugogo By-pass in Kampala.

The press conference lasted for strictly 30 minutes.

Three of the head coaches for this weekend’s Quarterfinals matches attended the press conference; Kitara coach missed as his team was due to play Sharp FC today in the FUFA Big League in Hoima.

What they said:

Wasswa Bbosa (SC Villa Jogoo Head coach):

We are ready for the match against KJT. It is one club that we know inside out. They are our neighbors and we respect them but we shall play our hearts out because the target this season is for a seasonal double.

Sc Villa’s head coach Wasswa Bossa (L) and KJT’s Abubaker Seguya (R) at the press conference

Abubakar Sseguya (KJT Head coach):

This is the moment to show that our previous results in this journey of the Stanbic Uganda Cup were by hard work. We shall play Villa at Lugogo and ready to eliminate them like we did against URA and BUL. KJT is a good team and we have good players.

Head coach of Kampala Junior Team (KJT) Abubaker Seguya during the press conference at Kati Kati on Thursday morning

Mike Mutebi (Head coach, KCCA):

The romance of the Stanbic Uganda Cup tournament lies upon the unpredictability of the event. Clubs of all stature have the capacity to pull decent results moreso, from the so called big clubs. As KCCA, we are prepared for such clubs. We have played friendly matches with regional clubs and on such unfavourable playing fields. Those are the grounds we have in Uganda. My team is definitely the favourite but we have to prove that on the field of play.

CECAFA U-17 in Burundi: One change for Uganda Cubs ahead of clash with Sudan

Wednesday 18th April, 2018

Uganda vs Sudan in Gitega 4pm (Ugandan time)

Uganda U-17 National team coach Peter Onen has made one change from the team that played against Tanzania in the opening match ahead of today’s fixture with Sudan in Gitega in the ongoing CECAFA U-17 Championship.

Onen who gave his players the freedom to play offensive football in the match against neighbours Tanzania was happy with the fighting spirit from his team right from the opening minute till the end when they salvaged a point in the 1-1 draw.

Asaba Ivan will play way for Idd Abdulwahid but the coach maintains that he needs a good result from the team.

‘It is a development tournament but the players need to know the importance of wearing with pride the National team jersey. I am happy with the players the way they are picking on every detail in training. All these players are featuring in an international tournament for the first time’ said Open.

Comment from Bashir Mutyaba -Team Manager and FUFA Deputy Football Development Director

Uganda is the defending champion of CECAFA U17 that was last played in 2009 in Sudan. However, FUFA is not under pressure since we are undergoing a restructuring process of the youth Systems.

CECAFA U17 tournament is being used as a development tournament to expose the players as we prepare them for the CAF U17 qualifiers in August 2018 in Der es salaam, Tanzania. We have monitored these players through out yuth systems including the FUFA Juniors League.

OPINION: An Open Letter from The Referees’ Chairman to football Coaches

Wednesday 18th April, 2018

To: Our Football Coaches,

From: The Judges of Football,

Reduce the level of conflict you create with Match officials.

It has not been an easy letter to write, but change is needed. It is not as if we have not had good times together, but I admit compatibility is part of us in line with the technical aspects on the football arena.

The contentiousness, animosity, sarcastic statements, insults, intimidation and abusive language must stop.

It dishonors football and teaches the wrong lessons to the most immediate football stakeholders.

It also costs us our newest and best source of new officials – Some of our referees are your former players. (I would have shared photos to this effect but misinterpretation may take its toll)

Officiating is an enjoyable act on the pitch. Referees offer the best while officiating to raise the bar for the beautiful game in the country.

Complaints about the men in black are welcome and audience will be given to you irrespective of the manner of your approach.

However, there lies a huge difference in our acceptance of your comments. An abusive teacher loses credibility with the officiating crew almost immediately. As refs, we will hear only the abuse, not the content. We need to work as a unit as it becomes easier to listen and respond to complaints constructively.

The writer of the Open Letter Ronnie Kalema during his days of active refereeing.

I hope this message is received well.

We do watch many of you on a daily at matches. We understand the amount of efforts you put in to get the best results from a game. Sometimes frustrations take control of you, but why turn a larger portion of this frustration on to referees?

We work hard to improve on the standards of referees through various refresher courses to better calls on the field of play.

Mark you they are not perfect like computers.

Are we going to try to be? Absolutely YES! ‘No one hates a bad call more than the referees’.

The quality of the games carries an impact on the final product from the referee but we are absolutely getting better.

However, ours is an impossible task without your aggressive and proactive support.

You have trusted us with your games! Now, trust us with the decisions being made on the field of play. This is a shared need to keep your profession and ours too.

To my referees, we can only gift the beautiful game with the best officiation like never before.

Remember the journey we have trekked till to-date, discussions about modern refereeing and the good systems coaches are using on the field of play. The game has attracted media attention especially with television. FUFA has trained coaches about the FIFA Laws of the game.

The implication for referees is to make the right calls for the coaches to appreciate professionalism.

To regain our status as officials at the FIFA World Cup, AFCON & several other call ups at the international stage, this game requires a lot from us to implement the FUFA refereeing strategy of Integrity, Fitness and Performance”.

 I submit.
